The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) will soon start the recruitment of engineering graduates through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2017).
About National Hydroelectric Power Corporation
The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation or NHPC was established in the year 1975 and is an Indian Hydropower generation company. The company was incorporated with an authorised capital of INR 2000 million. The objective of the company was to plan, promote and organise an efficient and integrated development of hydroelectric power in all aspects.
NHPC hires promising and skilled Graduate Engineers and Officers via the GATE 2017 exam. Candidates who graduated in civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering streams are eligible to apply for these vacancies. Candidates with a postgraduate degree in Geology or Applied Geology are also eligible to apply for these vacancies.

Eligibility Criteria:
Trainee Engineer (Electrical) –
Candidates applying for this vacancy need to hold a bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/B.Sc in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Power Systems and High Voltage, or Power Engineering with a minimum 60% aggregate marks or equivalent from a recognised university.
Trainee Engineer (Civil) –
Candidates applying for this vacancy need to hold a bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/B.Sc in Civil Engineering with a minimum 60% aggregate marks or equivalent from a recognised university.
Trainee Engineer (Mechanical) –
Candidates applying for this vacancy need to hold a bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or Mechanical & Automation Engineering with a minimum 60% aggregate marks or equivalent from a recognised university.
Trainee Officer (Geology) –
Candidates applying for this vacancy need to hold a master's degree in Engineering/Technology/M.Sc in Geology or Applied Geology from a recognised university. Candidates must have studied Geology with Mathematics or Physics at the graduation level.
Age Limit:
The age requirements are listed below for NHPC recruitment through GATE 2017 -
Maximum age limit for General category candidates is 30 years
Candidates with OBC reservation receive 3 years relaxation in upper age limit
Candidates with ST or SC reservation receive 5 years relaxation in upper age limit
People with disabilities (PWD) receive 10 years relaxation in upper age limit
OBC candidates with disability receive 13 years relaxation in upper age limit
SC/ST candidates with disability receive 15 years relaxation in upper age limit
Candidates with Ex-Servicemen quota also receive age relaxation as per Government guidelines
Valid GATE Score:
The score of the candidates in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2017 will be a determining factor in the selection. The graduate engineers who are interested in taking up a career in NHPC need to appear for GATE 2017 in the relevant disciplines.
On the basis of the GATE score, candidates will then be qualified for the next selection rounds consisting of a group discussion and a personal interview to assess a candidates’ understanding of different facets, skills and attitude. Candidates have to first successfully pass the GATE-2017 examination and after that the GD and PI to make it to the selection. Merit list will be prepared on the basis of GATE score, GD and PI scores, and will as per each discipline.
Application Process:
Candidates can apply for the vacancies in NHPC on the basis of their GATE 2017 registration number printed on the GATE 2017 Admit Card.
Candidates must upload a recent colour photograph and his/her signature in JPG format. The file size should be less than 23KB for the photograph and 15KB for the signature.
Candidates must be ready with all the required documents in PDF format (between 100KB to 200KB in size) as an attachment to submit the application form. The documents to be uploaded are Class X or Metric Certificate for Proof of Date of Birth, Class XII Certificate & Marks sheet, B.Tech/B.E /AMIE Certificate and marks sheet, Certificate from the principal of the institution last studied in stating that the candidate has studied their B.Tech/B.E in the institution (not applicable for AMIE candidates), PwD Certificate in the format prescribed (If Applicable), a Category Certificate (If Applicable) and a Conversion certificate of University for conversion of grade to percentage.
After the submission of the application, a unique ID will be generated. Candidates must note this down for future reference.
Take a printout of the Registration slip/form generated by the system for future reference.
The candidates must note that there is no application fee to be paid to register for NHPC.
Salary Structure:
Candidates who are selected as Engineers and Officers will undergo the training period and will be given a monthly stipend between INR 20,600 to INR 46,500. Post training, the employees will receive a monthly salary between INR 24,900 to INR 50,500. Apart from this, they will be eligible for Industrial Dearness Allowance (DA) and other allowances, as per the rule of NHPC, and as has been amended from time to time.
