The study focused on children between five and seven years of age (a critical period in the development of memory) who simultaneously learn two languages. It showed that they not only performed better than their peers, but also got better results on more complex tasks. “These findings suggest that bilingualism not only improves working memory, but also affects the global development of executive functions, especially when children cooperate with each other,” concluded Morales Castillo, one of the lead researchers.

In the study, people who were given the task to take notes while listening to annoying phone calls recalled 29 percent more of a conversation than people who just sat there and listened.

Scientists at Princeton and Indiana University conducted two different experiments in which they tested the effect of fonts memory. In one experiment, participants were given 20 seconds to read a particular text written in Arial or Comic Sans font. It was found that those who read the text written in a more difficult font (Comic Sans) could better recall the text 15 minutes later.
